Wow! It certainly has been a jump into the new year and 2024 has started off with a big bang. Our Clarendon Park Primary School "Moana Jnr" auditions were challenging, with large numbers of talented hopefuls trying out for main roles. After a full week of auditions and callbacks, we were finally able to announce our cast on Friday 2 February. Everyone has been cast and will be an important part of the production. Despite the fact that some were disappointed at not getting lead roles, they came to our first rehearsal on 3 February with big smiles, ready to face the challenge ahead. Those who have main parts were also feeling a little concerned about the overwhelming roles they had to face, and I am happy to report that after four rehearsals, everyone is feeling a lot more at ease and happy about the process.
Pearson High School (under the Directorship of Linda-Louise) will be performing a Musical Revue at the same time in April, and once all the sporting and open day challenges are over, they will swing into gear with their rehearsals too!
It is certainly going to be a busy time in local school theatre. Wonderful to see culture embraced and celebrated! Our studio production will be in the usual time slot of mid-late September at the Little Theatre. Details to be announced soon.
Trinity College of London Examinations are held in June. More information about this will appear on the website once we settle into a routine with rehearsals. If you have any queries, please email us, and we will be happy to assist.
A huge thank you to all the parents who have noticed that we haven't increased fees for 2024, but are offering an option to donate an extra R100 on termly fees to "Isithatha Theatre" to our theatre development programme. This money will go towards assisting disadvantaged children participate in Trinity Examinations. We run a "Free Friday Performance Arts Programme" for these children at the theatre every week, and would like to offer some incentives for those who excel to be able to achieve more. You can just add this to your fees, and we will transfer this to the Isithatha Education Fund. If you wish to do this yourself, you can follow www.isithatha.co.za and check out the brand new website with "donate" options.
One more thing for this week : Friday 9 February: A slight change of schedule for Clarendon. This is due to the Staff Development programme. Please note the venue changes as well, as the hall will be unavailable.
