The Isithatha Theatre

Isithatha is the result of a friendship between Sharon Rother, Phambili Ngcayisa and the late Gift Buqa.  Together they dreamed of a space where disadvantaged actors could come and train from Walmer Township.  Sadly this dream only became true after the passing of Gift in 2014.  Funding became available from the NLC and a  property at 12, 9th Avenue was acquired and renovated.  It is now a beautiful black box theatre that has sustained itself and continues to thrive.

Volunteers-Garden

Volunteer

You can contribute to Isithatha by volunteering in various ways. We need individuals to manage our costume wardrobe for costume rentals, which helps raise funds for our theatre programs and maintenance. Additionally, arts teachers are welcome to run afternoon classes. If you enjoy gardening, we would greatly appreciate assistance in maintaining our large garden. General handymen are also sought after for property maintenance, and volunteers are needed to operate our bookshop, raising funds to support our programs. Your involvement will make a meaningful difference in our community theater initiative.

Donate

Our operational Back a Buddy fund is now active, welcoming donations for any of our diverse projects. You can specify your preferred allocation, such as building maintenance, sponsoring a student, supporting our feeding program, contributing to the production initiative, or providing bursaries. Additionally, you have the option to make a direct contribution by providing essential supplies like tea, coffee, long-life milk, sugar, bread, butter, peanut butter, fruit, jam, and juice, which we utilize to feed the children attending our programs. Your generous support is greatly appreciated!

Sponsor

Consider sponsoring a deserving student to pursue further studies in theatre, film, or the performance industry. Your donations will be used to support identified students who lack the necessary funds for their education. Rest assured, our audited books will manage the funds, ensuring that these students receive the training and qualifications they need to build a career in their chosen field. You can make a significant impact by sponsoring a child's classes at Isithatha with just R100 per month, providing an invaluable opportunity for their artistic development and growth.
